Courtney Abel was born in Guyana and raised in the United Kingdom. He has been practising law for approximately 25 years. He is a graduate of Warwick University and was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales in February 1980 and is a member of the Honourable Society of Inner Temple.
He was trained at distinguished Chambers in London and returned to the Caribbean in 1988 where he worked with Caribbean Juris Chambers in Anguilla. In October 1995 he established the Chambers of Courtney Abel and Associates and subsequently merged his practice with that of Patrick Patterson, forming Caribbean Associated Attorneys. Courtney Abel has appeared as lead Counsel before Courts and Tribunals in Anguilla and elsewhere in the Eastern Caribbean including the Court of Appeal and before the Privy Council in the United Kingdom, on a number of occasions.
He is a former President of the Anguilla Bar Association and is currently the President of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Bar Association; former Vice President of the Anguilla Financial Services Association.
Courtney Abel is an experienced trial lawyer in the areas of civil, corporate and commercial law. He has a keen interest in legal and managerial aspects of the Entertainment business.
Courtney Abel is the Managing Director of On Island (Anguilla) Corporate Services Limited, a Licensed Company Manager and Registered Agent in Anguilla.
He has been active in local community organisations, including The Rotary Club of Anguilla, where he served as President, and the Anguilla Wine Society, of which he is President.
